2017 Philadelphia International Piano Competition result

After a very high level competition, our winners have been announced. Hear them at the 2017 PYPA closing concert tomorrow night at Field Concert Hall, followed by a reception!

Category A: age 17 and under
RYAN ZHU (Canada), age 13

Prizes won:
Li-Yu Lee Award for First Prize Winner –
cash prize of US$1,000

Ching-Yun Hu Full Scholarship Award –
full scholarship to attend the 2018 PYPA

Category B: age 18 to 26
HUIPING CAI (Hong Kong/China), age 19

Prizes won:
Li-Yu Lee Award for First Prize Winner –
cash prize of US$1,000

Evelyn Cohen Concerto Award –
a concerto engagement with orchestra during 2017 – 2018 season

Gladys and Perry Rosenstein Recital Award –
a solo recital engagement at the Puffin Cultural Forum in NJ during 2017 – 2018 season

*All prizewinners will perform in the 2017 PYPA closing concert on August 15, 2017 at Field Concert Hall, Curtis Institute of Music.

16 contestants from around the world gathered at Curtis for the competition for two age groups: age 12-17 for group A, age 18-26 for group B. Two finalists are selected from each group.

We thank you preliminary judges, Zsolt Bognar, Eric Fung and Natalie Zhu for their adjudication. It was a very hard decision for them to make because the level of the young artists are so high, far exceeded their expectations.
