GUIDELINES

Applicants must be born after August 9, 1990.
PYPA will accept 20 active participants. Applicants who are not accepted as active participants will automatically be accepted as observers.

Active participants and observers are responsible for arranging their own travel and accommodations in Philadelphia. PYPA will not arrange for or book hotel accommodations for anyone including artists, parents, and observers. We suggest Club Quarters, however, as a potential hotel.

Obtaining a US visa is the responsibility of the participants and observers. PYPA can provide official invitations for participation upon request.

Active participants and observers are responsible for their own safety and for obtaining US health insurance during PYPA. Please note that active participants and observers’ current health insurance may not necessarily be accepted within the US.

English will be the official language used during PYPA. If an active participant needs a translator, then the active participant is responsible for locating and paying for a translator. At the active participant’s request, PYPA will assist in locating a translator, but PYPA cannot guarantee success.

Participants who are 15 years old or younger at the time of PYPA are required to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian during his or her stay at PYPA.

Participants who are 16 or 17 years old at the time of PYPA and who do not have a parent or legal guardian accompanying them at PYPA must have a parent or legal guardian sign a consent form.

PYPA will organize an optional tour to visit The Juilliard School in New York City for the participants and observers during the academy, at the participants’ and observers’ cost.

Send application form and fee through online registration (including one photograph, a short bio, the proposed repertoire for the masterclasses, and a recent live recording CD or DVD of free repertoire choice.

(The Registration Form needs to be filled out online, except for the audition recording)

Application: USD$150
Active participants’ fee: USD$2,950 (includes all concerts, five masterclasses, practice room fee and participation in Philadelphia International Piano Competition )

Observers fee: USD$925 (Includes all concerts and masterclasses)

Parents or legal guardians of participants who are 16 or 17 years old at the time of PYPA are not required to attend PYPA. If they do not attend, they must submit a signed consent form, as noted above. If they attend, they must pay an additional fee of $725, as noted above.
Parents or legal guardians of participants who are 18 years old or older are not required to attend PYPA. If they attend, they must pay an additional fee of $725, as noted above.
Parents or legal guardians of participants 15 years or younger at the time of PYPA must attend PYPA. PYPA offers a discounted fee for accompanying family member of $725, which includes concert tickets to all events, and observation of all masterclasses.

New York City (The Juilliard School) one day tour: USD$100 (Optional)

Scholarships are available to active students with financial need or exceptional qualifications. Interested applicants should submit a written request, along with supporting financial documentation, after receiving their acceptance letter.

For bank security reason, accepted active applicants and observers wiring payments to PYPA will be contacted by PYPA staff with bank account details after the selection process.

*If an active participant or observer wishes to cancel before June 15, 2017, the active participant or observer must send a signed letter and PYPA will refund 50% of any paid application or tuition fees. If, however, cancellation is due to an inability to obtain a visa, the amount of refund is subject to approval by PYPA executive directors.
*If an active participant or observer wishes to cancel after June 15, 2017, PYPA will not refund any paid application or tuition fees unless the cancellation is a result of Acts of God or force majeure.
